THE WOOD SHED
FINE FURNITURE BEGINS HERE.
Here you can browse through wood available for your special, one-of-a-kind project. Just as a gourmet chef may begin with the finest quality, organic ingredients, your project begins with the highest quality, locally-sourced hardwoods.
The selection is separated by tree, as each tree will have unique grain patterns, varying colors, and different working properties. The boards you are viewing are commonly refered to as slabs. Slabs make great table tops, bar tops, coffee tables, headboards, credenza tops, and benches. For your convenience the lengths and widths are measured and marked on each board. Have fun, get inspired, and if you see something that catches your eye let me know.

FAIRVIEW BLACK WALNUT
These magnificent boards were cut from a black walnut tree and with the assistance of Shafer Tree Care was felled in Fairview, NC. The tree was showing signs dying and the homeowners were concerned about the tree falling into the house or road. All of the boaards with the exception of FW5 are cut to a thickness of 2" and have a natural edge on both sides. FW5 is roughly 2 1/2" thick. The top section of these board I find to be the most unique because the tree branched out into limbs at this point and created wild and almost marbled grain that is almost imposible to find at any lumber yard or saw mill. These boards are very clear and considered to be prime from one end to the other.
FLAT ROCK BLACK WANUT
These rustic and earthy black walnut boards were milled from a black wanut tree that was felled in Flat Rock, NC with the assistance of Shafer Tree Care. These boards are all milled at a thickness of 2" with the natural edge on at least one edge. Towards the top end of these boards you can see where the insects once made a home for themselves, this can either be treated with a complemetary wood filler or cut off completely. The grain in these boards are very nut brown and will patina nicely over the years.
